It was tucked behind an old radiator.
The picture showed a little girl standing in front of a yellow house.
Above it, a child had written:
“My home. My secret. My mom will come back.”
Rosalie assumed it belonged to the previous tenant.
Then she noticed something strange.
The house in the drawing looked exactly like her childhood home.
The Yellow House
Rosalie had grown up in a yellow house with a large tree beside the front door.
But her family had sold it when she was seven.
She had barely remembered the details.
Until she looked at the drawing again.
The little girl had a tiny mark beside her left eye.
Rosalie had the same mark.
Her hands began to shake.
The Name on the Back
She turned the paper over.
There was a name written in faded pencil:
“Mireya.”
Rosalie immediately called her mother.
“Mom, did you ever know someone named Mireya?”

Rosalie told her about the drawing.

They played together almost every afternoon.

Rosalie's mother had always told her that the family moved away.
That wasn't true.
Alina had been taken away by relatives after her mother became seriously ill.
Before leaving, Alina had hidden the drawing behind the radiator.
She believed she would return one day.
The Photograph
Rosalie searched through her mother's old photographs.
Finally, she found one.
Two little girls stood beside the yellow house.
Rosalie recognized herself.
The other girl was Alina.
On the back was a message:
“Best friends forever. Don't forget me.”
Rosalie started crying.
She had completely forgotten her.

Rosalie spent weeks trying to find Alina.
Eventually, she discovered that Alina was living in another state.
She sent her a photograph of the drawing.
The reply came the next morning.
“You remembered.”
Rosalie smiled through her tears.
“I didn't. But the drawing did.”
The Reunion
Months later, the two women finally met.
At first, they simply stared at each other.
Then Alina laughed.
“You still make that face when you're nervous.”
Rosalie laughed too.
Within minutes, thirty years seemed to disappear.
They talked about the yellow house, the old tree, their childhood games, and the promise neither had remembered keeping.
Before leaving, Alina asked for the drawing.
Rosalie handed it to her.
Alina looked at the words written by her younger self.
“My mom will come back.”
She smiled sadly.
“She never did.”
Rosalie held her hand.
“But I did.”
Sometimes childhood promises don't disappear.
They simply wait somewhere in the past until someone finds the courage to remember them.
