Mia received a text from an unknown number at 9:14 PM.
“I’m sorry. I should have told her the truth years ago.”
She stared at the message.
It wasn't meant for her.
She should have deleted it.
Instead, she replied:
“I think you have the wrong person.”
A minute later, another message appeared.
“Then please don't tell anyone.”
Mia's curiosity grew.
Who was this stranger?
And what truth was he hiding?
The next morning, the number texted again.
“I'm sorry about yesterday.”
Mia replied:
“Who are you?”
There was a long silence.
Then:
“My name is Daniel.”
Mia didn't know anyone named Daniel.
He explained that he had accidentally sent the message to her while trying to contact his daughter.
His daughter hadn't spoken to him in six years.
“I don't know what to say to her,” he admitted.
Mia almost ignored the conversation.
But something about his words reminded her of her own father, whom she had lost without ever resolving their last argument.
So she wrote:
“Tell her the truth. Even if you're afraid.”
Daniel replied:
“What if it's too late?”
Mia answered:
“Then at least she will know you tried.”
Two days later, Daniel sent her another message.
“She agreed to meet me.”
Mia smiled.
She had never expected to hear from him again.
But the next message shocked her.
“Thank you. You gave me the courage to make the call.”
Mia put down her phone.
Then she realized something.
She had spent years regretting that she never repaired things with her own father.

“Mom?”
“Yes?”
“Tell me everything you remember about Dad.”

“Why?”

He had kept every birthday card she had given him.
He had followed her career from a distance.
He had even visited her old apartment once but didn't knock because he was afraid she wouldn't want to see him.

“My daughter forgave me.”
Mia smiled.

“I hope you find your way back to your father too.”
Mia stared at the screen.
She knew exactly what she needed to do.
