“My name is Claire.”

“Do you know my husband?”
“Yes.”

For months, Nora had felt like she was losing Adam.
They had been married for nine years.

Adam came home late.

He had been trying to understand why Nora was unhappy.
“He told me you stopped doing the things you loved,” Claire said.
“He said you stopped seeing your friends. You stopped talking about your dreams. You seemed exhausted all the time.”
Nora's eyes filled with tears.
“He noticed?”
“Of course he noticed.”
“Then why didn't he tell me?”
Claire smiled.
“Because he was afraid you would think he was blaming you.”
That evening, Nora waited for Adam.
When he came home, she was sitting at the kitchen table.
“Who is Claire?”
Adam stopped.
His face immediately changed.
“You know?”
“I called the number.”
He sat down.
“I wanted to tell you.”
“Then why didn't you?”
Adam looked at his hands.
“Because I didn't know how.”
Nora's voice broke.
“I thought you were cheating.”
“I know.”
“I thought you didn't love me anymore.”
Adam looked at her.
“That was never true.”
“Then what happened to us?”
He took a deep breath.
“I think we both got so busy surviving life that we forgot to live it together.”
Nora began crying.
Adam reached for her hand.
“I wasn't trying to fix you.”
“Then what were you trying to do?”
“Find a way to get my wife back.”
Nora looked at him through her tears.
“I never left.”
“I know.”
He squeezed her hand.
“But I missed you.”
That night, they talked for hours.

About work.

About the dreams they had abandoned.

Nothing magically became perfect.

They started listening again.

Claire laughed.
“You called me thinking I was destroying your marriage.”
Nora smiled.
“And you ended up helping save it.”
Claire shook her head.
“I didn't save your marriage.”
She pointed toward Adam, who was waiting outside.
“You two did.”
Nora looked through the window.
Adam was smiling at her.
She smiled back.
The strange number had frightened her.
It had made her imagine the worst.
But in the end, it had given her something she thought she had already lost:
